New sessions of the our perennial favorites, Yoga, Tai Chi, Living Strong and The Feldenkrais Method have begun, but if you are not sure which class would be right for you, please come try one out before you decide. What a great holiday gift to yourself or for that special someone on your list!
The Senior Center is pleased to host the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, December 17, from 2-7:00 p.m. The comfortable atmosphere and great snacks make giving the “Gift of Life” at this site most pleasurable.
A new session of Chair Yoga with Tiny Sikkes begins Mondays from 9:30–10:30 a.m. Dates: 1/4, 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8. Using chairs for balance and for all seated postures, this class makes yoga accessible to those who are challenged by balance, the ability to come to the floor or any physical limitations. We’ll cover the full range of yoga postures and benefits while sitting comfortably in chairs – improving breath capacity, strength and flexibility. This is a great class for anyone concerned about adapting in a standard class. Registration necessary. Fee: $60 per session.
Winter blues getting you down? Long nights and short days keeping you from connecting with other people? Samuel Lurie, M.Ed., CHt, returns Friday mornings from 9:00–10:30 on January 8, 15 for Chase the Blues Away. Learn how to use the power of your mind to reduce stress and feel happier, healthier and more vibrant. Learn what hypnosis is all about and how to use it to meet goals that you choose. The instructor is an experienced health educator as well as clinical hypnotherapist. We will focus on some techniques to help you relax, rejuvenate and be a better YOU! Registration required. Fee: $10 per class for seniors, $20 for community members.
Please join an open meeting of the Shelburne/Charlotte Garden Club as it presents Charlotte’s own Norm Pellett who will be talking about his book, The Gardener’s Quiz Book on Tuesday morning, January 12, at 10 a.m. New and experienced gardeners alike will find the information fascinating and informative with questions and answers to intrigue, stimulate, educate and entertain. Norman Pellett was raised on a market garden farm in western Iowa and is Professor Emeritus, University of Vermont, where he taught horticulture, provided extension education,and conducted research for 29 years.
Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at 12:00. Reservations are necessary in
advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4.00 donation is requested.
Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1 a.m. to enjoy the After Lunch Offerings.
1/6: Healing through Deep Relaxation with Susan Fitzgerald
During this free demo, experience the feeling of Deep Relaxation in your body, your mind and emotions as it works gently and powerfully to help restore balance and wellbeing on every level. The practice is especially helpful for sleep problems, anxiety or depression, physical pain management, and stress issues.
1/13: Hands to Honduras – TELA with Linda Gilbert
In 2009, 83 volunteers (mostly from Chittenden County) traveled to Tela to build school classrooms, provide ambulance training, conduct medical and dental clinics…– and the 25 – project list goes on.  February 2010 marks the sixth year for the organizers, who will share a slide presentation about this community-to-community program.  Why do they return each year? It’s all about the kids!
