Charlotte Senior Center Happenings
by Mary Recchia, Activities Coordinator
Please look for the Senior Center Winter Program of activities as an insert in the next issue of The Charlotte News. Until then, here are a few offering to fill out the month of November.
Chair Yoga with Tiny Sikkes has been extended. Please feel free to join this class any Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. through November 23. Using chairs for balance and for all seated postures, this class makes yoga accessible to those who are challenged by balance, the ability to come to the floor or any physical limitations. Fee: $10 per class.
Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary in advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs. Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1 p.m. to enjoy the After Lunch Offerings:
11/11: HONORING OUR VETERANS with Wendy Roth and Bob Chutter
This Veterans Day we will honor veterans with a very special program; beginning with selected readings from letters received from servicemen during World War II, followed by reminiscences by a panel of veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam and possibly Iraq and Afghanistan. There will be an opportunity to meet and talk afterward; a light dessert will be served.
11/18: THANKSGIVING DINNER
Our annual Thanksgiving Dinner will offer the traditional fare of turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and apple pie with cheddar cheese for dessert. Seating begins at 11:30 a.m. for this special dinner. The center will take reservations for 80. A $4 donation is requested.
The eighth annual Charlotte Artisans Sale will take place Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Charlotte Senior Center. Twenty-five local area artisans will sell their handmade wonders in this intimate setting. Selections include knitted hats, ceramics, jewelry, sculptures, ornaments, clothing, and other attractive and useful articles. Light homemade refreshments will be available on site. Buy local and support the Senior Center!
For those of you looking ahead, Harriett Brainard and Joan Weed invite you to help create the old-fashioned sights and smells of years gone by on Tuesday, December 1, from 9 a.m. to noon by Baking Cookies for the Tree Trimming party after the luncheon on December 2. Antique, collectable cookie cutters will be the inspiration for our festive cookie making!
New sessions of Gentle Yoga, Tai Chi and The Feldenkrais Method begin the first week of December, and the Flynn Matinee series continues with an offering of Play Me a Story! Stories, Culture, & Classical Music from the VSO on Thursday, December 3, at 9:30 am. Narrated by Willem Lange, New England’s premier storyteller, this lively program explores the enduring cultural and literary ingredients of fables, myths and tales from around the world. The symphony illustrates the marvelous enhancement of stories through music with Prokofiev’s classic Peter and the Wolf, and Bizet’s colorful opera Carmen. The program ends with inspiration and creativity as an original student composition brings a fractured fairy tale to life! Fee: $8.
