Charlotte Senior Center Happenings
by Mary Recchia, Activities Coordinator
All are welcome to join in the fun as we celebrate summer at the Annual Senior Center BBQ on Friday, August 7, beginning at 5 p.m. Our theme this year will have a French flair and highlight the sights and sounds of Lake Champlain with our own Marty Morrissey and Robert Resnik bringing their accordions, whistles, guitars and songs about our beautiful lake for after dinner enjoyment. Fun for the whole family! Registration requested. Fee: $10.
Deep Space and Goat’s Grace is the name of the August Art Show by Charlotte resident, Linda Reynolds. She paints mostly in watercolor and hopes her pieces will transport you to relaxing, still places you’d like to be during this rushed season. They are meant to be evocative of a season, time of day, change in weather or simply a place you’d like to go. Most of the time she tends animals and high school students, sings in the local choir and putters, but also invites commissions to paint your favorite view, garden, pet, property or place, preferably from life. You can join Linda for a reception on Sunday, August 16, from 2 to 5 p.m.
Genealogy with Carl Tatlock will meet on Thursday, August 6, at 1 p.m. Do you want to research your ancestors but not sure how to get started? Or have you hit a brick wall in your research and need some ideas on what to try next? Come meet with others who have worked on their family trees to share ideas, information and the stories of your journey through history. Family Tree Maker and Ancestory.com are available at the center to assist you in your search. No Fee.
The Gentleman’s Eatery with Mahlon Haines will be cooking up breakfast on Thursday, August 13, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Whether you’re single, want to upgrade your skills or maybe never thought you’d need to learn to cook, here’s a chance to experience the joys and practicalities of cooking while having fun at the same time. Registration required. Suggested donation: $5 to cover the cost of food.
Our fourth annual art show, “Yes We Can! (Do Art),” will be the September Art Exhibit at the center and we would like you to take part in the celebration. This is a non-juried show open to area artists of all “mastery” levels ages 50+. Our hope is that many types of art media will be represented. We again want to encourage three-dimensional art of all types this year. Registration forms with specific details are available at the center. Call Sabina at 985-4099 with questions or bring your ideas to discuss during a regular meeting of the Friday morning Lighthearted Arts Group. Entry deadline is August 14.
The center is pleased to host the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, August 20, from 2 to7 p.m. The comfortable atmosphere and great snacks make giving the “Gift of Life” at this site most pleasurable. Congratulations to all for exceeding the goal for June!
Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary in advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs.
August will be a time for the Monday Munch crew to take a break and dream up new and exciting menus for their return on September 14.
