Our May Art Exhibit comes from Marla McQuiston who enjoys painting on location. The clear, luminous color of pastels captures the rich and temporary light of morning and evening that weaves through landscapes with subtly glowing threads. Marla lives in Williston with her family.
Thursday Evening Bridge starts up again beginning May 7 at 6:30 p.m.
Get Motivated Through Self-Hypnosis with Samuel Lurie, M.Ed. and certified hypnotherapist Friday mornings from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on May 8 and May 15. Learn what hypnosis is and how to customize it to meet YOUR goals. This workshop will explain ways in which we can increase relaxation and use the power of our subconscious minds to help us feel more vibrant and content. Hypnosis can be used to get better sleep, manage pain, build confidence, change eating habits and more. A CD recording for home use is included. Registration required. Fee: $15/session; $25 for both.
The last Spring Road Hike with Marty Morrissey will be on Tuesday, May 12, and go to Underhill State Park. Details of the hike are available at the host desk. Registration required. No fee.
The Flynn Center has offered tickets to “Sing Sing”: Stories, Music, and Dance from Aboriginal Australia & Pacific Neighbors. A rare opportunity to explore the vibrant cultural links between Aboriginal Australians and their closest neighbors, this incredible tour is the first-ever celebration of indigenous traditions from the highlands of West Papua, the coral atolls of Papua New Guinea and the vast deserts of Australia! Don’t miss their phenomenally powerful drumming, stirring ritual dances, hauntingly beautiful bamboo flute music and magnificent ceremonial dress. Registration is through the Senior Center and required one week prior to the show. Thursday, May 14, at noon; 1 hour; $9.
Donations, Please! ! Our Annual Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 16, where you will find buds, blossoms and bargains. If you have seedlings or plants to donate or would like help digging donations, please call Lorna Bates at 325-3819.
During Monday Munch on May 18, several folks from the CCS Mentoring program will be available to talk about the program. We are very proud to have two Senior Center folks who participate in this program.
Our glorious Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary in advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested to help cover costs.
Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1 p.m. to enjoy the After Lunch Offerings:
5/13: Hearing Screening, courtesy of The Audiology Center at Fanny Allen, Fletcher Allen Health Care
A certified audiologist from FAHC will provide a free hearing screening using portable testing equipment. The outcome of the screening will give you information on the status of your hearing and whether or not you may want to seek further evaluation. Please register for this offering at the host desk and receive an appointment time.
5/20: Electra to the Rescue: Saving a Steamboat and the Story of Shelburne Museum with Valerie Biebuyck
A summer resident of Charlotte, Valerie brings you her first book, the story of Electra Havemeyer Webb, a pioneering collector of American folk art, the treasures she collected, and the museum she created for them in Vermont. Valerie loves to talk about Electra and her passion for folk art, collecting and the joy of thinking for oneself. She will discuss this formidable character and read passages from the book while showing slides of Electra’s life and the objects she collected. You are invited to bring in examples of folk art from your own collections to add to the discussion.
