A new session of T’ai Chi with Mike Prehoda begins on Thursday, January 28, from 10-11 a.m. for newer students and 11a.m.-noon for students familiar with the form.
T’ai Chi is now recognized throughout the world as an unparalleled exercise program for mind/body training. Robust health, peace-of-mind and personal empowerment are just a few of the rewards that await the practitioner of this ancient art. In this class geared toward seniors, students will learn the beginning of the Yang-style T’ai Chi form as well as awareness training and softening exercises. Registration necessary. Course fee: $42. You are welcome to come try a class to see if this form of exercise is right for you.
Genealogy with Carl Tatlock resumes its monthly meeting on February 4. Do you want to research your ancestors but are not sure how to get started? Or have you hit a brick wall in your research and need some ideas on what to try next? Come meet with others who have worked on their family trees to share ideas, information and the stories of your journey through history. Family Tree Maker and Ancestry.com are available at the center to assist you in your search. No Fee.
The center is pleased to host the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, February 11, from 2-7 p.m. The comfortable atmosphere and great snacks make giving the “Gift of Life” at this site most pleasurable.
Senior Luncheons are held every Wednesday at noon. Reservations are necessary in advance and can be made by calling the Senior Center at 425-6345. A $4 donation is requested.
Those who do not wish to share lunch with us are welcome to drop in around 1 p.m. to enjoy the After Lunch Offerings:
February 3: ENVIRONMENTAL ART with Sally J. Smith
Sally will share in pictorial form her year-round work creating unique sculptures out of natural materials in outdoor locations in the Adirondack Mountains. Each design is created using primarily found materials. Leaves, flowers, moss, stone and twigs are carefully chosen for her unusual and fascinating pieces.
February 10: PANNING FOR GOLD with Randy Archer
Did you know that Vermont had a gold rush in 1855 and several gold mines? Recreational gold panning is still popular with all ages in Vermont and New England. Learn about gold, watch a panning demonstration or try it yourself with real gold pay dirt. No, you don’t get to keep the panning gold, but do bring your best reading glasses or a magnifier.
