Charlotte Senior Center
by Mary Recchia Activities Coordinator,
February 10, 2011, page 15.....

The Spring Program of activities and events will be an insert in the next issue of The Charlotte News. Additional copies will be available in the front foyer at the center, and you can also go on line to view the complete program at charlottevt.org.
The center is pleased to host the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, February 10, from 2-7 p.m. The comfortable atmosphere and great snacks make giving the “Gift of Life” at this site most pleasurable.
The center will be open on Presidents Day, February 21, but we will NOT be serving Monday Munch. The crew looks forward to seeing you on the 28th.
A special thank you goes out to Sabina and Lloyd Evarts for bringing to fruition the February Art Show: A Grand And Loving Connection! The object was to encourage seniors to interact artistically with members of a younger generation who have special places in their hearts. Thanks also to Celeste Forcier’s granddaughter Bridget for the seed of this wonderful idea. The artists of all ages gathered for a reception on Sunday, February 6, and shared stories of intergenerational artistic relationships.
This is not your Granddaughter’s Pilates class! Join Phyllis Bartling Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:30 a.m. for a Mat Pilates class designed for folks 55 years and older to be challenging yet with safety in mind. Pilates specifically targets the core muscle groups, including the lower abdominals, lower back and gluteals, to improve balance, strength and posture. Exercises are done on the floor on mats (a rolled-up towel to put under your head is a good idea). Phyllis has been a certified Pilates instructor for four years, specifically teaching senior programs for three of those years. Registration required. Fee: $42 for six classes.
We continue our Movies in the Afternoon series every other Thursday from 1-3:30 p.m. with All About Eve on February 17 and Mr. Blandin Builds His Dream House on March 3. We will provide the movie and popcorn at no charge; beverages and candy can be purchased. No registration necessary.
Events Following the Wednesday Luncheon at approximately 1 p.m.:
2/16: Touring The Rivers Of Southeast Asia with Tom McAuliff
You can go by river taxi, bamboo raft, “longtail” speedboat, a rice barge or a plain old kayak, but tour he did, and Tom has put together a slide show of his travels on the rivers of Southeast Asia. Come explore the history, culture and nature of this beautiful region rich with its rugged mountains, seacoast and exotic floating markets.
3/2: The Health Assistance Program with Ann Slattery, RN BSN BSW
The Health Assistance Program (HAP) is committed to assisting the uninsured and underinsured pay for medical services at Fletcher Allen. Ann will be on hand to describe this free or low-cost service, which can assist with the application process for health care programs such as VHAP, Catamount, Medicaid, Part D plans for Medicare and the Patient’s Assistance Program. This program can help with outstanding bills from Fletcher Allen, help clients who qualify financially to obtain much needed medications through our “Affordable Meds” program and some pharmaceutical programs, and help with eye glasses, dental care and dentures.
