This show is a celebration of friends and family, a collection of artists from varied backgrounds and diverse ages from beginners to accomplished professionals in myriad joyous expressions of the creative spirit.
Spring Splash – a Watercolor Class with Lynn Cummings begins Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. - noon. Dates: 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31 and 6/7. Brilliant spring flowers and the greening, blooming landscapes of Vermont will be the subjects for this watercolor class. From beginning watercolor painters to those with some experience, all participants will enjoy exploring fun and interesting ways of painting colorful spring subjects in this supportive class environment. You will be encouraged to loosen up and use this wonderful, sometimes unpredictable, medium to its advantage! Please pick up a materials list at the Center prior to the first class. Registration required. Fee: First four classes, $96, all six, $144.
The first Spring Road Hike with Marty Morrissey is Tuesday, April 26, to Red Rocks Park. The hike starts at the parking lot off Queen City Park Road in South Burlington. We will follow roads in a loop through the park to the lake at the far end. This area has lots of spring wildflowers. Total distance is 2 ½ to 3 ½ miles. Please meet at the Center ten minutes prior to our 9 a.m. departure. Bring water, good hiking or walking shoes and a snack or lunch. Registration required. No fee.
Come enjoy a Spring Stroll at Thompson’s Point with Jinny McLoughlin on Wednesday, May 4, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Witness the wonders of spring and signs of the new life that only spring can bring. Enjoy this new season with an easy stroll at Thompson’s Point where the early wildflowers bloom. We’ll meet at the Senior Center to drive to the “Point” to enjoy a pleasant slow walk at your own pace. We’ll see glimpses of the lake as well as the abundant wildlife and flowers. Weather dependant, registration required. No fee.
Afternoon Tea in Celebration of Mother’s Day Saturday afternoon, May 7, beginning at 2 p.m. When tea is served, something enchanting happens. There is laughter and in the dappled sunlight, at a table set with favorite china, delicate confections and tea sandwiches, affections are renewed. Please invite your grandmother, mother or grandchild and join us as we transform a weekend afternoon into a tea party for the women you admire most! “tea attire,” whether hat and gloves, or jacket and ties, is encouraged as we revive this wonderful old tradition for your afternoon enjoyment. Reservations required by May 1. No fee.
Living Strong in Vermont with Margery Rutherford and Dorrice Hammer begins a new session on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. - noon. Dates: 5/13 thru 7/29, two days/week. This Program helps maintain independence by increasing strength, muscle mass and bone density using hand and ankle weights. Balance exercises enhance agility and decrease the likelihood of falls while flexibility exercises increase joint mobility and reduce the risk of injury. The weight-bearing exercises are done seated and standing behind the back of a chair. These are particularly effective for osteoarthritis sufferers, who benefit from increased pain-free range of motion. New participants can stop by the Center to pick up a doctor’s consent form. Registration required. Suggested donation: $48, for new participants.
Events Following the Wednesday Luncheon at approximately 1 p.m.:
4/27: Home Sweet Accessible Home Workshop:
“Be a Planner Not a Procrastinator” with Ron O’Brien and Mary Ann Ficociello.
Learn how simple changes in one’s lifestyle and home can help a person live independently and remain healthy for many years.
5/4: Take A Poem Out To Lunch with Jim Lovejoy
Pack a poem in your pocket before coming to the center today! April is National Poetry Month, and our theme this session will be MOTHERS!
