Charlotters Wake to Early Hours Robberies

Eight separate break-ins, focused primarily along Greenbush Road to Thompson's Point Road in West Charlotte, were burglarized Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
At a press conference held at noon on Tuesday in the Williston barracks, Lt. Dee Glynn, Station Commander, said that she wanted to "get the word out," and asked for assistance from anyone who may have information of the crimes.
Occupied homes, both locked and unlocked, were accessed sometime after 9 p.m. Monday night. Calls to the police began coming in between 2 and 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. The robbers took easily disposable currency such as cash, wallets, purses, change from car ashtrays and, in one case, a bag of frozen blueberries.
Some homes had dogs, none of which alerted their owners. Lt. Glynn emphasized that home owners should not rely on their dogs as a burglary alarm, saying, "There is not always a guarantee that a dog will alert the owner."
She also stated that entry into occupied dwellings is somewhat unusual. "It isn't something we see every day and it gives a certain amount of concern," she said. Some of the houses were locked and entry was evidently gained by prying off screens.
In addition to the homes, copper piping was stolen from the VELCO substation off Ferry Road, and Lt. Glynn reported that several cars in Charlotte have been broken into recently.
Lt. Glynn said that she was headed back out to Charlotte to talk to another victim. There are no suspects as yet but Lt. Glynn asked for townspeople to be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles and people, and to all the State Police at 878-7111 with any information. The state police urged people to lock their homes and vehicles, and not to leave items of value in sight.
