Charlotte Central School Secures $2.8 Million Bond Pre-Approval
Charlotte Central School Secures $2.8 Million Bond Pre-Approval
by Edd Merritt
The school bond for planned renovations to CCS is official now. A petition to re-vote the amount failed to gain the required number of signatures, and the School Board met Tuesday, December 8, to take the next steps needed to prepare for the renovation project. The school has received pre-approval of $2.8 million in Qualified School Construction Bonds through a zero-interest bond financed through the Merchants Bank.
CSSU operations head Bob Mason reported that the architect’s contract was being reviewed, and he felt it valuable for someone from the board to be privy to the discussion of its measures along with the architect and the district’s counsel. The board agreed and appointed Lynn Jaunich.
Tom Barden of Hinesburg was selected as Clerk of the Works. He has overseen many local projects including the CVU auditorium upgrade and the CCS upper level flooring job. He will represent the board throughout the renovation process.
Following suggestions to incorporate the phrase “on schedule and under budget” along with a requirement to update the CCS Board regularly on the project’s progress, the Charge to the Construction Committee was approved. Members of the committee anticipate meeting weekly during the design phase and twice each month during construction.
The board is looking for community members who are qualified and interested in serving on the Construction Committee. One will be selected along with a member of the faculty.
Qualifications include knowledge of the construction business or a related field and a schedule that will allow the person to participate in the committee meetings.
Anyone interested in serving should submit an e-mail that includes background information and experience to the CCS Board no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, December 18. The address is construction@ccsvt.us.
Four construction management firms met the board qualifications for project managers and have been asked to submit bids by January 5.
