Charlotte-Essex Ferry Will Open Tomorrow
Charlotte-Essex Ferry Will Open Tomorrow
May 25, 2011.....

Despite the high water, the ferry will open between Charlotte and Essex, NY, tomorrow morning (Thursday, May 26) at 6 a.m. Here is the notice received from the Lake Champlain Transportation Company(LCT) today:

The Charlotte, Vermont to Essex, New York Ferry Crossing will reopen May 26 at 6 a.m. despite the record high lake level.
The Essex Ferry Dock has been elevated with 50 truckloads of gravel to keep the vehicles and passengers clear of the floodwater on the dock.

With the present lake level of 102.27 and higher than normal precipitation recently, without the additional gravel, the crossing would have remained closed for the foreseeable future.

The Grand Isle, Vermont to Plattsburgh, New York Ferry and the temporary ferry crossing at Crown Point continue to run twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, without any service interruptions.
