Team Takes 2nd Place in Vermont state competition.
Congratulations to CCS 5th graders Andrew Silverman and Nathan Hodgson-Walker, 6th graders Zach Toensing and Ben Hyams, 7th grader Hayden Kjelleren and 8th grader William Hodgson-Walker. After winning the CSSU regional competition, the CCS GEO-BEE team competed on Saturday, May 14, in the Vermont State VPA/AAA Travel Geo-Bee Competition in Northfield.
The boys did a fantastic job, finishing second in a difficult contest. They were the youngest team overall, with the other schools composed mostly of 8th graders. They came within four points of a tie in the 12th round. This was quite a feat since after eight rounds, they were trailing by 20 points and only six points ahead of the last place team. With four rounds left, the team came up with almost perfect scores, missing only two of the 20 questions. They had three perfect rounds, in which each team member answered every question correctly, the only team to do so.
The final score was: Dummerston 90, Charlotte 86, AD Lawton 76 and Weathersfield 66.
