CCS Girls Win Basketball Tournament
CCS Girls Win Basketball Tournament

The CCS girls “A” basketball team won the CSSU basketball tournament with a first-round win over Shelburne and a victory over Williston in the championship game. CCS defeated Shelburne 24-15 on Wednesday, January 19, in a hard-fought game. CCS led 12-9 at the half and extended its lead to 18-13 at the end of three quarters. Maddie Turnau led CCS scorers with six points.
In the championship game, CCS defeated Williston 37-9. CCS’s stifling defense held Williston to two points in the second half, while its balanced offense went on the attack. Sadie Otley led CCS with nine points, Turnau added seven points, and Laurel Jaunich chipped in six to give the CCS girls’ team its first CSSU championship since 2006.
CCS is now 10-0 on the season. Team members include 8th graders Maddie Turnau and Katie Bedell (back row holding trophy), and 7th graders Emma Hess, Anna Pugliese, Malina Carroll, Laurel Jaunich, Catherine Cazayoux, (front) Katey Hayes, Madison Randall, Sadie Otely and Maeve Higgins The team is coached by Josh Safran.
