CCS Boys Soccer Had a Super Season
by Tom Giroux, Soccer Coach at CCS

During the year ending tournament on October 18, The A team, after earning a #4 seed, lost a tightly contested match to undefeated Williston, on early and late goals. They then came back the next day, and handed #2 seed Hinesburg, a 1-0 defeat, on a pretty goal by Christian Sakshaug. CCS finished the fall with a 7-3-2 record.
CCS outscored their opponents 22-9 during the year. Connor Gorman played every minute in the net, often with stellar performances, that were key to many of the results. He had seven shutouts to his credit, with a .75 goals against average.
Conner was assisted defensively by a very strong group of backs. Mark Deslauriers was the clog to the defense, always working hard and seldom making a mistake. Tyler Williamson was outstanding, as a great defensive back and knowing when to counter attack, which led to his team leading 7 goals and adding 2 assists. Kyle Jaunich, Eli Spencer, and Scott Schibli also had good seasons, all playing large roles in holding the opponents to less than a goal a match.
Christian, throughout the year, did a superb job of dictating the flow of play, from his midfield position, creating goal scoring opportunities, and finished with 5 goals and 4 assists. Other leading scorers were Elliott Mitchell who was credited with 3 goals and 4 assists, Scott Schibli tallied 3 times, Nathan Comai had 3 goals and an assist. Also passing their way to goals, were Colby Jordan, with 3 assists and Jack Kantor with another.
With a small roster, the contribution by Mason Cohn, Shawn Fortin, Jack Reynolds, and Dylan Rocheleau, was a necessity, and proof that a “TEAM” concept is a reality, and will lead to success. Looking to the future, CCS will have only Kyle and Mason as returning players, so the team will look to them for leadership next season and pray that more families follow the path of the Sakshaug’s and move to Charlotte.
The B team, consisting of all 6th graders, had a great season, finishing with a deceiving 2-3-5 record. Half their matches were against older teams, but even though they were bigger, stronger and faster, the CCS team stood tall and held their own. On at least two occasions, the visiting coach, in awe, commented on their play, so they all should be proud of their performances.
The squad was led by Brad Reynolds, who tallied 7 goals and had 2 assists, and for the good of the team, played half of each match in goal. Alternating as the other keeper was George Davis, whom, along with Brad, and the tough defenders, allowed only 17 goals in 10 matches.
Teddy Turnau was the master at passing the ball to teammates for goals, ending up with a team-leading 6 assists. The two Colin(s),(Lock and Mosey) each scored 3 goals and had 2 and 1 assist respectfully. Ethan Leonard fired in a goal and passed for 3 others. Joey Franceschetti, hit the back of the net twice from his midfield position, and Jackson Abele had the match tying goal against Lawton.
The team was very coachable, they all worked hard, and seemed to enjoy playing various positions, which they were often asked to do. Ben Hyams, Kevin Devine and John Delisle never lit up the scoreboard, mostly due to do where they were asked to play on the pitch, but contributed enormously to a very successful soccer fall at CCS.
Coaches Mike Dinicola and Tom Giroux, would like to thank all the parents and other fans, for their great support throughout the season. It is great looking across and seeing you all there. A “thank you” also goes out to Deb Stone, for her work painting the fields, the goal nets, and for all she does for the little future soccer stars at CCS that are now in the Rec program.

Stay Warm and Active with Recreation Basketball
by Deb Stone, Recreation Coordinator
The snowflakes have started falling, and there is a nip in the air. Cold weather sends many of our kids inside. Keep them active this year by signing them up for recreation basketball. The recreation basketball program provides a venue for athletes to learn and master basketball skills in a fun, positive environment. Winning is not the primary objective but rather development of sportsmanship, teamwork, respect of others and discipline. The season starts December 6, though the older teams may begin practices earlier. First games are December 18 or January 8, and the season finishes on February 12.
Information and forms are available on the website and at Town Hall. Coaches are still needed. You don’t have to have a child in the program to coach. Contact the Recreation Office if interested at 425-6129 or e-mail recreation@townofcharlotte.com.
There are a couple opportunities outside of town that may be of interest as well. Sleepy Hollow Ski Center is offering the Bill Koch program again this January and February on Fridays for kids ages 5-13, and a junior high racer program Tuesdays and Fridays.
Find out more information on its website, skisleepyhollow.com. The CVU Nordic Ski Team is having its annual silent auction November 22-23, 1-7 p.m. at CVU. It’s a great place to pick up gifts for the holidays.
