On Tuesday, June 7, from 1:15-2:15 p.m., the Charlotte Central School Stage Band will perform at the Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington. The performance will be on the upper block of Church Street, by the fountain near Halvorson’s. The band will play a large assortment of music – “a full spectrum of the jazz genre,” according to band teacher Andy Smith.
Smith spoke with great excitement as he described the performance. It’s an opportunity for the band to “really open up.” Normally when the Stage Band performs in other places, it has a much shorter time limit. In this event stage time is an hour. This year band members have created their own arrangement of Eddie Harris’ song, “Cold Duck Time,” during which most of the students will have improvised solos. Also new this year, Sophia Fenn will be singing “All Right, Okay, You Win,” made popular by Peggy Lee. The Stage Band is comprised of approximately 35 7th and 8th grade students. “It’s going to be a great time!” Andy chuckled. “It’s everything we’ve worked on all year.”
The CVU Jazz Band will will also perform at the Jazz Festival. They will be on Church Street on Thursday, June 9, from 4:15-5:15 p.m. on the City Hall Stage.
