What’s your wish for the New Year? Hope? Peace? Fun? Make a recycled-paper garland to reflect your wish for 2011. Make two and leave one to decorate our entryway tree for the month!

Lions & Tigers & Bears! Oh My!
These are just three of the creatures featured in our Winter Story Time session. We will venture into the jungle and forest with these wild animals, reading true and make-believe tales, singing songs and doing some animal dancing, too. Preschool story time begins Tuesday, January 11, and runs through February 15, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. January 18: Wildcats, January 25: Elephant Tails, February 1: Groundhog Celebration, February 8: Animal Valentine, February 15: Un-bear-able Fun! Please call the library to sign up as registration is required.

Friday Free-For-All Winter Session begins January 14.
Icebergs, volcanoes and other natural wonders will capture our attention during our Friday morning sessions. We’ll experiment to make our own volcanoes, see what makes an iceberg float, discover the ground-shaking facts about earthquakes and whirl up a tornado in a bottle. Snacks, books and plenty of fun! Free-for-all program runs from January 14 to February 18, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Please call the library to sign up as registration is required.

We Love Books Scrapbook
Stop by and check out the compilation of November’s DIY Craft: Be Thankful for Books. The art has been collected into a notebook that will be on display at the DIY table, so take a look at the book-inspired artwork.

The Day Of The Pelican Mural On Exhibit In Library.
Our Vermont Reads students created a wonderful mural depicting the story from The Day of the Pelican. Based on their reading of and journaling about the book, the mural shows the young protagonist’s journey from war-torn Kosovo to Vermont. The young artists, Sevi Burget-Foster, Caroline Colvin, Annabelle Kreech, Julia Kahn and Ella Woodruff, worked with artist and teacher Emily Bissell Laird, using collage and colored pencil to make this moving narrative scroll.
