Blood Drive at the Senior Center June 24
Blood Drive at the Senior Center June 24
by Mary Recchia, Activities Coordinator,
June 17 2010, page 15.....

Senior Center staff and volunteers are pleased to host the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, June 24, from 2-7 p.m. The comfortable atmosphere and great snacks make giving the “Gift of Life” at this site most pleasurable.
All are welcome to join others for an evening of fun, non-competitive Bridge on Thursdays from 6:30-9 p.m. No fee.
Walking Buddies complements our annual summer walking program. Organized walks will be held every Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. before the luncheon. The sites are planned so that you can do a short, medium or long walk with the short walks being fairly flat. Shelburne Farms is the destination on June 23 and signups are posted at the host desk. No fee.
Join Annette Zeff for a French Conversation Group on Wednesday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Dates: June 9-July 28. Challenge your brain! Practice your conversational French and have fun at the same time. Each week the group will choose the next week’s conversation topic. Group activities could include role-playing and games (charades, spelling bees, scrabble, etc.). Join the fun and sharpen your mind. Registration required. No fee.
Our Fifth Annual Celebration of Art is a community affair, non-juried, and open to artists ages 50+ of all mastery levels. Both 2- and 3-dimensional art are welcomed! We added a theme to last year’s exhibit: “Tell us the story behind your art piece.” We invited stories to be submitted for the program, and artists told fascinating tales about their work at the opening reception. This year we want to ask “What’s in the name?” and hope to have a lively discussion for artists and viewers on how the art gets its name at the Gala Reception on September 1. Registration forms with specific details will be available during the regular meeting of Lighthearted Arts on Friday, June 18. The deadline for entry forms is August 13.
Join Roy Whitmore and Bob Chutter the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings of the month from 7:30–9 a.m for Gentleman’s Eatery. Whether you’re single, want to upgrade your skills or maybe never thought you’d need to learn to cook, here’s a chance to experience the joys and practicalities of cooking while having fun at the same time! Each class will culminate with a sit-down breakfast that you help create with plenty of time for sharing conversation. Registration required. Suggested donation: $5.

If you are not sharing Wednesday lunch with us you are welcome to drop in around 1 p.m. to enjoy the after lunch offerings:

6/23: MEMORIES OF ROUTE 1: FROM MAINE TO FLORIDA with Tricia Coleman
When you were a child, did your family visit Caribou, Maine, or Washington, D.C., or Key West, Florida? If so, then you probably traveled on Route 1. Folks at the Charlotte Senior Center will be “virtually” walking Route 1 this summer and they would like to gather and share memories of family trips and collect information (historical, geographical, culinary, sports, political, etc.) to create trivia questions and crossword puzzles.
