In mid-November, Tracy Brown opened Blissworks Consignment Shop, located in the newly renovated Hinesburg Village Center on Mechanicsville Road. The outpouring of support astonished her. She has received items from several Charlotte families. Blissworks accepts gently worn clothing, accessories, jewelry, art, functional art, locally crafted goods, and music by local artists, as well as vintage items and soft goods for the home, on a very selective basis. She also carries an array of hair accessories, greeting cards, Way Out Wax Aromatherapy candles, sunglasses, readers and more. Fall and winter clothing is still being accepted. However, due to a late season opening, it is being offered at half price until the end of March. Spring and summer items will be accepted beginning February 4. Tracy believes that by gathering warm-weather items early, a greater selection will be created in fewer months. Blissworks accepts 12 items per day per person on weekdays. Items must be in current style and excellent condition. Currently, the shop is testing carrying men’s and children’s apparel to see what the community response will be. Tracy hopes to focus on women’s apparel with a section for young adults.
Blissworks is more than just a consignment shop it also houses Blissworks ~Feel Good Living, a feng shui consulting and coaching practice. Beginning in February, Blissworks will offer classes in the “Feel-Good Living Room” evenings and weekends on a variety of topics, including but not limited to Foundations of Feng Shui, Aromatherapy, Law of Attraction, Living According to the Cycles of Nature, Personal Altar Building, Mandala Making and more. Blissworks is fast becoming a hub for community gatherings that promote the arts. On January 20 it hosted local Charlotte jazz band, Dan Silverman/ Cobey Gatos Quartet for a musical event that was free to the public. Tracy’s son Garret Brown, a CVU senior, accomplished musician and grandson to locals James and Helen Brown, and his band will perform there in the future. Many may know him from the gig he had at Higher Ground in June 2011, celebrating the release of his album Priorities. Tracy hopes to host local musicians twice a month.
Brown has worked in the family consignment business, The Exchange, in Essex Junction for over 35 years. She brings her consignment clothing knowledge and her background in healing, art and design together at Blissworks to promote Feel Good Living in a variety of ways. She lived in Hinesburg with the family for 19 years, and daughters Hayley and Megan will likely follow in family footsteps and work at the shop, while son Garrett will continue to grace the new space with his music.
