CONGRATULATIONS

to Sara (Wool) and Gabriel Rodriguez of South Burlington whose daughter, Macie Jane Rodriguez was born October 6 at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington. Grandparents are Charlotters Michael and Martha Wool.

to Jane and Sarah Thompson of Charlotte and Kara Griswold of Ferrisburg who rode their horses ten miles and raised $1,000 in the “Komen Ride for the Cure” held in Woodstock on October 10.

to Charlotte Fire and Rescue whose cadet firefighter, Zach Trono, was featured on the front page of the Burlington Free Press’ October 8th “Hometown” section for the department’s activities on Fire Safety Day at Charlotte Central School. Zach, a CCS alum decked out in full fire-fighting gear, demonstrated what to do if a person’s clothes are on fire. Students crawled through a simulated smoke-filled house and were each given red fire hats. Teacher Beth Adams said she believes the students viewed the presentation as fun, but serious nonetheless.

to the Blittersdorfs, chief operations officers of NRG Systems in Hinesburg and AllEarth Renewables in Williston, who were awarded Carbon Cups in the seventh annual “Way to Go!” competition for cleaner air through a commuter challenge. AllEarth Renewables, according to the article, “has a built-in advantage with mission-driven employees,” Blittersdorf says. Every employee who commutes to work by bus or other low-emission vehicle receives a $500 incentive from the company.

again to AllEarth Renewables whose AllSun Tracker was selected as a “Top-10 Green Building Product” for 2012.The award was announced at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo held in Toronto, Canada. David Blittersdorf said there are nearly 900 solar trackers installed in Vermont alone. The tracker is a pole-mounted solar energy system that uses GPS and wireless technology to follow the sun throughout the day, allowing it to produce up to 45 percent more energy than fixed systems. The tracker was selected for the award by the editors of Environmental Building News and GreenSpec.

to Jonas Powell whose photo of his dog Willie chasing a seltzer bottle not only won honors in the Charlotte News Peter Coleman photo contest, but now appears in the book, Capture My Vermont, published by the Burlington Free Press and KeyBank.

to Andrea Green, M.D. of Charlotte who was presented with the Local Heroes Award for 2011 by the American Academy of Pediatrics at its annual meeting in October. The Academy presents the national award to one male and one female pediatrician, recognizing them as leaders through their action and advocacy for children in their communities. Dr. Green has been with University Pediatrics at UVM since 2004. She directs the Pediatric Immigrant Clinic there, caring for children from Burma, Bhutan, Iraq and other African nations.

is extended to family and friends of Alexander Lewis of Charlotte who passed away October 4 at the age of 85. In 1974 Alex opened Lewis Motors in South Burlington as the area’s Volkswagen dealership. He later added Audi and Porsche to the business. Alex retired in 1993 and turned the operation over to his son David. His surviving family includes his wife Constance of Charlotte. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, Shelburne.

is extended to family and friends of Steven Clark of Charlotte who passed away October 6 at the age of 67. Steve lived most of his life in Charlotte, attending Charlotte Central School followed by Edmunds High School in Burlington. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Charlotte and worked with General Electric beginning in 1965. His surviving family includes his wife Elizabeth (“Buff”) of Charlotte and his two children James, now of South Burlington, and Joyce of Dedham, Massachusetts, both of whom grew up in Charlotte. Those wishing to make donations in his memory may do so to the Charlotte Fire and Rescue.

is extended to family and friends of David Meyer of Shelburne who passed away October 10 at the age of 62. Dr. Meyer’s devoted friends include Dennis Bosch and many others in Charlotte. Friends will celebrate his life at The Lodge at Shelburne Bay, 185 Pine Haven Shores Road, at 1 p.m. on October 22.

is extended to family and friends of Donna Harrington who passed away October 16 at the age of 54. The daughter of Harley and Shirley Allen, she grew up in Charlotte where she worked on the Brenrock Farm, owned by her aunt, Brenda Whalley Temple. Her surviving family includes her brother Harvey Allen of Charlotte. They ask that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her ame may be made to the Cancer Patient Support Program, P.O.
