David Cray, 20 gallons

to Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity and its construction of efficient and affordable houses off Greenbush Road in Charlotte. The local Habitat affiliate was awarded the Clarence Jordan Award, one of two given nationally, for the modular, highly efficient and affordable home design that is being used on one of the three houses being built on the Habitat site. All three meet standards for high-energy efficiency. However, the other two are stick-builds rather than modular. Boston architect J.B. Clancy worked in partnership with Peter Schneider of the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation to create and donate the modular home’s design.
to Bill Michaud, whose satirical history of the baby boomers appeared as a commentary in the January 7 Burlington Free Press Opinion Section. Entitled, “Please accept my apology,” he says the boomers have lost sight of the bigger picture. Instead of reasonable benefits for everyone, we sought big returns for ourselves. He ends his mea culpa, saying, “Remember in college, the '60s and '70s, I was going to change the world? Well, I certainly did. Not with peace and love, but with selfishness and burdens.”
to CVU student Laura Hinsdale who earned AB honors for her first quarter grades.
to Elaine Ittleman who was named Secretary on the Board of the Stern Center for Language and Learning at its 27th annual meeting recently.
