CONGRATULATIONS

to Kim Brockway and Zachary Williamson on the birth of their son, Aidan Brockway Williamson, on May 7 in New York City. Aidan is the grandson of Jack and Susan Williamson of Charlotte.

to Zachary’s sister, Sarah Williamson, and her husband, Jonathon Ball, on the birth of their son, Jackson Fenton Ball, the following day, May 8, in Boston, Massachusetts. Jackson, too, is the grandson of Susan and Jack Williamson of Charlotte.

to Tessa and Michael Duquette of Virginia Beach, Virginia on the birth of their son, Andrew Hall Duquette, who was born May 9. Tessa is the daughter of David and Susan Miskell of Charlotte.

to Elizabeth Richards who led off the 2011 KeyBank Vermont City Marathon with her singing of the National Anthem.

Monday was Charlotte Day in the Free Press. The May 30 Burlington Free Press seemed to be divided into Vermont City Marathon pictures and articles about Charlotte. The latter featured interviews with David Blittersdorf, in which he describes his plans for solar power through trackers produced by his company, AllEarth Renewables, and a Vermont section headlining Charlotte’s large proportion of prominent summer residents on Thompson’s Point and Cedar Beach.

to Chase Rulier Haven who graduated from Juniata College, Huntington, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry with a secondary emphasis in philosophy.

to the J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation which will be presented the Community Service Award by the Community College of Vermont (CCV)at commencement ceremonies June 4. The McClure Foundation has provided generous support to increase access to a college education for students who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to attend. Most recently, the McClure Foundation helped CCV expand its reach and effectiveness in serving Vermont’s veterans as they return from service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

to Cole Zweber and Henry Brown, students at Rice Memorial High School who were inducted into the Reverend Raymond A. Adams Chapter of the National Honor Society.

to Marie Lynn Young who received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Johnson State College majoring in elementary education and psychology. She is the granddaughter of Patty Horsford of Charlotte and Linda and Duane Cutting of Waterville, the daughter of Greg Young and Cindy Peterman.

to Lindsay Hartley and Adam Socinski who earned Bachelor of Arts degrees from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York. Hartley graduated Magna Cum Laude.

to Arthur Colby who earned a degree from Fairleigh-Dickinson University, Rutherford, New Jersey. Colby will enter the Marine Corps. He is the grandson of Barbara Colby, a summer resident of Thompson’s Point and a cousin of Alice Outwater and John Outwater, Jr.

to Christine Koster and other members of the spring benefits committee at Mater Christi School who raised over $44,000 for the school as a result of the annual spring benefit.

to Mia Sloan, a junior at St. Lawrence University, Canton, New York, who was presented with the Inger Jo Hanson Memorial Citizenship Award at “Moving Up Day” ceremonies recently. The award goes to a woman member of the junior class who best exemplifies the qualities of good citizenship at St. Lawrence. She is majoring in religious studies with a minor in Francophone studies.

to Abraham Gerson who earned a baccalaureate degree from Nazareth College, Rochester, New York. Gerson received a BA in French at commencement exercises May 8 after making the Dean’s List for the spring semester 2011.

to Jeffrey Mark McDonald who earned a Master of Science degree in environmental engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Massachusetts. He received the degree at commencement ceremonies on May 14.

to president William de Vos and his company Treeworks of Charlotte and Montpelier for being one of two companies chosen to transplant 400 Swamp White Oaks from a nursery in New Jersey to the holding yard prior to their planting at the Twin Towers memorial in New York City.
