to Ruby Russell, a senior at the Vermont Commons School who was recognized as an Academic All-Star by the Burlington Free Press on December 7. Ruby was named to the National Honor Society as a result of a high grade-point average throughout her school career, achieving honor roll status every semester from freshmen through junior years. She has been a member of the Vermont Youth Orchestra for nine years, traveling with the group to China and looking forward to a trip to France this coming summer. She also attended the Harvard University Secondary School Program where she studied psychiatric anthropology. She is a distance runner and plays on the school’s volleyball team. Ruby is the daughter of Margaret and Mike Russell of Charlotte.
to Ruth Uphold, M.D.,who has been appointed to the Fletcher Allen Health Care Board of Trustees. Dr. Uphold is a clinical attending physician at Fletcher Allen and former head of the hospital’s emergency department. She is currently professor of surgery at the University of Vermont’s College of Medicine and sits on the school’s admissions committee. She also serves in the community as a member of the United Way board. She joins Vermont Law School Dean Geoffrey Shields and the College of Medicine’s Russell Tracy, Ph.D. as new members of the Fletcher Allen Board.
to Marion Paris, MSW, who was co-recipient of the John Burchard “Spirit of Collaboration Award,” presented at the Collaboration Conference held in Killington, Vermont, recently. Robin Yandell of the Howard Center in Burlington presented her with the honor saying that Marion has provided services to Vermont’s children for nearly 40 years and is known and respected for her “depth of knowledge of the system, her passion and zeal for the work, her dogged, tenacious approach, straight talk and clear goal-setting that keeps teams moving forward toward what is best for the child.” Marion is currently Residential Services Manager for the Department of Children and Families, Division of Family Services, State of Vermont.
to Kelly Wilson, who was featured in the December 2008 issue of Vermont Sports as a Reader Athlete. Kelly is a personal trainer and running coach who completed her first 100-mile run this fall. In the interview she spoke about her passion for running, noting that one of her favorite courses is the Charlotte Covered Bridges Half-Marathon route that goes past her house. She and her husband, Jack Pilla, also an accomplished runner, train on the Long Trail along Stevensville Road and up the Toll Road on Mt. Mansfield.
to Jim Lampman, owner of Lake Champlain Chocolates who was featured, along with his company, on the cover of the December 15 “Business Monday” section of the Burlington Free Press. Jim has been stirring chocolate for 25 years, having founded his company in 1983. According to the article, while “the chocolate business isn’t recession-proof, it must come close.” “It’s a pick-me-up,” Lampman says. Jim, I just miss the days in Leddy Arena when you always arrived with candy to share.

Born in Massachusetts, she worked in the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. until moving to Charlotte with her husband Thomas in 1993. Funeral services will be held December 18 at the Charlotte Congregational Church.

is extended to family and friends of Sister Bernadette Aube, R.H.S.J. of Winooski, who passed away December 12 at the age of 85. Born in Charlotte to Damien and Corrine Aube, she entered the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph at Fanny Allen Hospital and later became head of the medical/surgical department at the hospital and served as its assistant administrator.
is extended to family and friends of Anthony Dean Ringer of Vergennes, who passed away December 11 at the age of 53. His surviving family includes his sister-in-law Carolyn and her husband, John Allen of Charlotte.
