to the following undergraduate students from Charlotte attending the University of Vermont who earned placement on the Dean’s List for the fall semester 2007-2008: James Allen, Ethan Bond-Watts, Meredith Holmberg, Michael Michaud, Sarah Minkler, Alexa Mucklow, Bryan Petrow, Laurel Radimer, Vera Simon-Nobes, Timothy Snow. Dean’s List students are in the top 20 percent of their class and demonstrate a grade-point average of 3.0 or better on a four-point scale.
to Edward Leckerling, a senior at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York, who earned highest honors for the fall semester 2007-2008. Ted is the son of Bill and Gerry Leckerling of Charlotte.
to Taylor Brady, a senior at Hamilton College, Clinton, New York, who is participating in an alternative spring break this year by traveling south to volunteer in needy communities. Taylor is an environmental studies major at Hamilton.
to Amy Collins and David MacGregor of Charlotte who announced their engagement. They plan a July wedding.
to Brooke Scatchard and Jack Jesset, who received awards for their creations at the recent UVM Sportec exhibition in the University Mall. Brooke was the winner of the “Most Innovative” award for his design of a snow-going bicycle called Bikes on Snow. Jack and his CVU classmates, Ryan Nick, Andrew Childs and Joseph Trottier received the “Most Economical” award for their snow paddle design. Sportec is sponsored by the Vermont Ski Areas Association and the Northeast Disabled Athletic Association and is intended to expand Vermont winter sports and promote sustainable concepts in sports technology while promoting winter fun.
to Robert Adsit III, who received his one-gallon pin from the American Red Cross Services, New England Region.
to Susan Ohanian, who announced the publication of her new book entitled When Childhood Collides with NCLB (No Child Left Behind). It is an account of the “assault of the U.S. Department of Education on children” by long-time teacher Ohanian. Author of over 26 books on educational topics, the Charlotte resident maintains a child advocacy website through which she opposes high-stakes testing. The site was awarded the National Council of Teachers of English George Orwell Award for Distinguished Contribution to Honesty and Clarity in Public Language.
to Woody Keppel, who has been selected as one of “30 People in New England You Must Meet” by Yankee Magazine. He will be featured in the upcoming June/July issue.
to Sumru Tekin and Naomi Krasnow, whose art work in paper and glass is currently on display at the Artists Cooperative Gallery, 215 College Street, Burlington, in a show entitled “Transparent Things.” According to a Burlington Free Press announcement, the artists want to make the “process of creating their work as visible to the viewer as they can without the loss of revelation.” Naomi and Sumru’s show will run through March 23.
to Coco Eyre, who persuaded her mother Melissa to have their picture taken for a photographic exhibit featured at the Helen Day Arts Center in Stowe. A wistful Coco and a smiling mother appear in the March 13 Stowe Reporter for all to see.
to Alex Bown, a sophomore at Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York, who earned placement on the Dean’s List for fall semester 2007-2008. Alex is majoring in business administration and has yet to determine what he will emphasize within the major.
to Natalie Franklin, Charlotte Central School’s entrant in the Vermont Spelling Bee March 19. Natalie competed with students from across the state to determine who will represent Vermont at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. May 25-30.

is extended to family and friends of Anthony “Hunter” Dandridge of Burlington who passed away March 7 at the age of 17. His surviving family includes his aunt and uncle Judy and Bill Hella of Charlotte. The family asks that those wishing to make donations in his memory do so to the Burlington Amateur Hockey Association in order to support kids who are in need of financial assistance. is extended to family and friends of Dennis H. Phillips of Burlington who died March 10 at the age of 84. A native of Virginia, she recently moved to Vermont in order to be near her daughter Kathryn Phillips Hale who, with her husband Bruce and son Jesse, lives in Charlotte.
is extended to family and friends of James O’Neil of East Charlotte who passed away March 11 at the age of 91. James lived in Charlotte for 30 years after having owned and operated dairy farms in Waterbury Center and Richmond. He was a master carpenter who built several houses and dairy barns and was active in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. The family asks that those wishing to make a donation in his memory do so to the charity of their choice.
