Correction:
In our last issue we incorrectly listed Terry Silva as receiving a bachelor’s degree from the Community College of Vermont. In fact, Terry earned her bachelor of arts degree in legal and justice studies from Burlington College. Terry, we apologize for our mistake and offer our congratulations on your graduation.
to Stacy and Nathanial Carr on the birth of their daughter Mavis Pearl Fraser Carr, who was born May 5 at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington.

CONGRATULATIONS

to David Quickel and Emma Burrous, owners of Stony Loam Farm in East Charlotte for a recent feature article in the Summer 2010 issue of Country Gardens. The magazine is a Better Homes and Gardens special-interest publication. There is a colorful picture of the farm stand off the Hinesburg Road behind Pizza on Earth as well as shots of David, Emma and their son Eli. There are several pages showing flower arrangements in interesting vases, and Dave describes the concept of community-supported agriculture (CSA). He says it is a way of bringing together “folks looking for fresh, local, seasonal food and farmers who want to run a financially stable business and be good stewards of the land.” “CSA creates a bond with the community,” he notes.

to David Miskell whose farm work with the development of South Village off Spear Street in South Burlington is featured in the summer 2010 issue of Vermont Life magazine. The development is unique in the sense that 334 homes are being built at the same time that Miskell’s planned 15-acre organic farm is growing in their midst, with the two elements of the village “intertwined physically and philosophically.” He is quoted saying, “This is a model where you grow both farms and farmers.” At the moment, under our nation’s somewhat gloomy economy, the farm portion is doing better than the houses.
