to Rachel and Matthew Novak on the birth of their son Kyle Evan Novak, February 8, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington.
to Jodi and Cameron Brown of Washington, Connecticut, and Thompson’s Point on the birth of their daughter, Jacqueline Clare Brown, February 9, in New Milford, Connecticut. Cameron is the son of Gordon Brown of Charlotte. Jacqueline is Gordon’s 14th grandchild.
to Emma Broderick, daughter of Andrew Broderick and Amy Fitzgerald and a senior at Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, New Hampshire, whom we recognize for two accomplishments. As a student, Emma earned highest honors for the 2009 fall term. She also joined a delegation that traveled to Washington, D.C. to present findings of a report from the New England Women and Girls Summit held at Exeter in December. The group met with Congressman Peter Welch, Vermont Senators Leahy and Sanders, and New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen. The New England Summit was a follow-up to the first World Women’s Conference held in Beijing, China, 15 years ago.
to Chase Haven, a student at Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, who earned placement on the Dean’s List for the fall semester 2009. The son of Robert Haven and Constance Roulier of Charlotte, Chase majors in biochemistry.
to Martha Waterman, a freshman at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York, who earned highest honors for the fall semester, 2009. Martha is the daughter of Scott Waterman and Sandy Steingard of Charlotte.

to Piper Oren, a 7th grade student at Mater Christi School in Burlington, for winning a Superior Award for her oral and written presentation at the Science Fair involving all the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in Ms. Michelle Donlon’s science classes.
to David Blittersdorf, CEO of AllEarth Renewables and inventor of a new type of generator for wind turbines that delivers current directly to the grid without having to use inverters. Blittersdorf’s technology, which has received a patent, was featured in an article in the Business Section of the February 26th Burlington Free Press. The article said it delivers 240 volts of alternating current, the kind used in all grid-connected households and businesses. AllEarth also produces solar trackers that Paul Connor, Director of Planning and Zoning in South Burlington, said “will generate clean, renewable energy right here in our back yards on underused public land.” As a result, South Burlington was one of nine recipients of block grants from the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC).
to Robert Costanza, an ecological economist and head of the Gund Institute at the University of Vermont, was profiled in the March issue of Vermont Maturity for his work in launching a new journal called Solutions. Through studies published in Solutions, Costanza hopes to work toward solving some of the “world’s pressing environmental, social, and political problems.” The article quotes him saying, “We need a place where we can discuss and deliberate solutions.”
to Liz Joslin, a junior at Connecticut College, New London, Connecticut, who performed in a recent production of The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler’s play celebrating the sexuality and strength of women. Liz is the daughter of Paula and Peter Joslin of Charlotte and a graduate of CVU High School.
to Jenny Nolan and Joshua Cook on the announcement of their engagement. Joshua is the son of Christine and Joel Cook of Charlotte. Jenny is the daughter of Cynthia Nolan of St. George.
to Burgundy Greene and Courtney Webster who announced their engagement. Burgundy is the daughter of Richard and Martha Greene of Charlotte. Courtney is from West Hartford, Connecticut. The couple plans an October wedding.

is extended to family and friends of Jessie M. Charlebois of Ferrisburgh who passed away February 24 at the age of 77. Jesse was born in Charlotte, the daughter of Henry and Jessie Bushey. She and her husband, Richard, owned and operated the Weinerburger Diner and Charlebois Auto Parts Store in Ferrisburgh.
is extended to family and friends of Arthur Burleigh of Charlotte who passed away March 7 at the age of 90. Art and his family maintained a farm off Spear Street near Lewis Creek for many years. Recently they preserved 72.5 acres of their land with the assistance of the Charlotte Land Trust and the Nature Conservancy. Surviving family includes his daughter, Sheila, and sons Wayne and Gary of Charlotte.
