Anne LaBombard is the latest winner in a series of monthly drawings by Transition Charlotte, winning a gift certificate from Pizza on Earth. All Charlotte residents who have completed Transition Charlotte’s Community Survey are eligible for the drawings.
“I was ecstatic about winning the gift certificate from Pizza on Earth. I didn’t even know I was entered in the drawing!” Anne said. “I was pleased to learn about the Transition Town movement at the Charlotte Town Party last summer. I didn’t know what it meant until I took the Transition Charlotte Community Survey and saw how much it involved practical skills that we can share with our neighbors. I’m very interested in things like canning workshops.”
Pizza on Earth, located at 1510 Hinesburg Road, features thin-crust pizzas baked in a wood oven and also features “hand-formed artisan style breads, with a unique smoky flavor and rustic appearance,” according to its website, pizzaonearth.com. The bakery also has a selection of desserts and breakfast pastries and, in the summer months, homemade gelato. Service is take-out only, but during nice weather, outdoor dining at picnic tables is available.

Transition Charlotte is one of thousands of “Transition Initiatives” around the world (towns, villages, universities, etc.) starting their journey to answer this crucial question:“...for all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly rebuild resilience (to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil and economic contraction) and drastically reduce carbon emissions (to mitigate the effects of Climate Change)?”
